You will also learn how to teach your child to listen to you, follow your instructions, and do so happily. These techniques will help prevent tantrums, whining, or crying from happening, and help you build a successful relationship with your child.

Topic: Why should you do ABA therapy for ASD? (Sponsored by Autism Winnipeg PACE)
There are a multitude of therapies available to children, adolescents, and adults with autism that are promoted as effective and evidence-based. This presentation will define evidence-based treatments for autism, show you how you can determine if treatments are evidence-based or not, and indicate how you can determine if the treatment you have chosen is working. This presentation will also define applied behaviour analysis (ABA), review the research on ABA and it’s uses, in particular for autism treatment, discuss the importance in getting access to ABA as early as possible, and also discuss the importance of getting access to ABA regardless of age. Questions will be welcome throughout the presentation as well as afterwards.

All seminars are lead by Dr. Kirsten Wirth, C.Psych, BCBA-D from Wirth Behavioural Health Services (www.wirthbehaviouralhealth.com). Dr. Wirth is a licensed psychologist and board certified behavior analyst-doctoral in private practice, an Adjunct Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Manitoba (http://www.umanitoba.ca/psychology), and the Governmental Affairs Chair, Founder, and a Past President of the Manitoba Association for Behaviour Analysis (www.maba.ca). She is also the author of “How to get your child to go to sleep and stay asleep: A practical guide for parents to sleep train young children,” and the mother of two young children. Dr. Wirth writes a blog on evidence-based parenting tips at www.theinvestigatingparent.wordpress.com. She has over a decade of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults, with or without developmental disabilities and autism using, teaching, and training others to use ABA, decrease problem behaviors, and teach skills. Dr. Wirth has also been an invited speaker and presenter at local and international conferences.
